Efron's Cave

The Cave of MachpelahNew from Israel are our exciting Efron's Cave selections. Efron's Cave is named after Efron the Hittite who sold Abraham his field and cave in Hevron for 400 Silver Shekels as a burial ground. This site today is the Cave of Machpelah, where Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca and Leah, the Patriarchs and Matriarchs of the Jewish peole are buried - Judaism's second-holiest site. Not far from Machpelah in Qiryat Arba, Abarbanel has crafted three original new wines.

Efron's Cave Triple PlumEfron's Cave Triple Red and Triple Plum are produced from grapes grown in Israel's Judean Hills (Harei Yehudah) Appellation - the most ancient area for viticulture in Israel. It was from Hevron that Caleb and Joshua brought back a giant cluster of grapes to Moses when spying out the land from the desert. "We are extremely proud that these wines and those of the Noah Winery are the first high quality popularly-priced wines from the Judean Hills," stated Howard Abarbanel. "Get beyond Galilee and see what the rest of Israel has to offer the discerning wine lover."

Efron Triple Red is one-third Cabernet Sauvignon, one-third Merlot and one-third Syrah, produced in stainless steel with pronounced forward fruit, big Bing cherries with a peppery mid-palate and smooth finish. The 2005 vintage is being released for Passover 2007. Efron Triple Plum is 35-percent Cabernet, 35-percent Merlot and 30-percent Syrah - the name says it all - a big burst of plum in the beginning with a hearty mid-palate and smooth finish. 2003 vintage in stores now. "We've crafted these wines as an easy choice for everyday. Plenty of fruit. Smooth. Compliments food," said Abarbanel. Mevushal. O-U certified. Efron's Cave Triple Red Efron's Cave Triple Plum

Efron's Cave White Joining the reds is Efron's Cave White, a 100-percent Sauvignon Blanc, also made in stainless - a crisp, angular wine with plenty of lemon, citrus, mineral notes and great acidity. The perfect wine for fish, white meat poultry and salads. Also Mevushal and O-U certified. From Israel's Dan Region - another great wine appellation from Central Israel. 2006 Vintage being released for Passover 2007.

RATING
Efron’s Cave Triple Red ‘03
"Kosher Dark ruby color with a gray cast. Smoky aromas of grilled pepper, charred meat, and and warm buttery berry compote. A round entry leads to a dryish medium-to full-bodied palate with buttery berry tart, grilled pepper, and flinty mineral notes. Finishes with a tangy, lightly phenolic fade of berry skins and smoky cedar. A bit over-the-top-with the smoke."
